Jordana + Mike
We met at the local dog park in 2009. One April morning a year and a half later, Mike rushed off to the dog park with our dogs and asked me to meet him there soon. Totally confused, I slowly got ready, grabbed some coffee, and walked to the dog park. Once there, Mike took the ring, which he had tied tie the collar of our dog, Cody, and pointed to our other dog, Heath, who was wearing a t-shirt that said, “Marry Him.” I cried and we embraced, and then I turned around to see our best friends photographing the whole thing
How did you come up with the budget for your wedding, and did you stick to it?
Since we paid for the wedding ourselves, we talked about a figure that would allow us to have a beautiful event without breaking the bank. We did end up exceeding the budget, but it was worth it!
Was there any personal element you incorporated into the wedding ceremony/reception?
After our “you may kiss the bride” kiss, we did our “secret” handshake to seal the deal! Also, since our dogs couldn’t be there on the big day, we had made life-sized cut-outs of Cody and Heath that people could take pictures with.
How did you decide on your color scheme and theme for the wedding?
Peach and blue just seemed like perfect colors for a late spring wedding and they complemented the Zion landscape beautifully!
What was a “must have” for your big day?
An outdoor, atypical wedding! Getting married under the sky in a beautiful setting (with no chance of rain!) was the reason that we came all the way from New York City to Springdale.
Share a wedding budget splurge that made a difference?
We initially wavered on whether we needed a videographer, but now that we have the videos and can share them with friends and family who weren’t able to attend (and relive it all again ourselves), we’re so glad that we spent the extra money.
Any advice you could pass on to future brides?
Enjoy every moment and try not to sweat the small stuff. What they say is true – it’s over before you know it – so it’s not worth stressing about things that most guests wouldn’t notice anyway. Just have fun and make sure to take some time with your new husband to look around and realize how lucky you are!
Where did you go for your honeymoon?
We have always dreamed of going on safari in Africa. We made that dream come true with the trip of a lifetime to Botswana.
