Sarah + Cameron
The proposal was simple but absolutely perfect for us. Cam kept insisting that we go for a hike. I had just eaten a huge plate of pancakes and wasn’t too keen on hiking right then and there. He was relentless so I finally gave in. We went to a beautiful waterfall behind the town of Kanarraville. Since I was pretty oblivious to what was going on I ended up wading into the water knee deep to take a closer look. Of course, this meant Cam had to try to get down on one knee in the water, which wasn’t a very easy task. He proposed and I said yes. After, we went on this crazy hike and I was in such a blissful daze I ended up falling into a yucca plant, which we still laugh about.
Was there any personal element you incorporated into the wedding ceremony/reception?
We had little personalized touches throughout the ceremony and reception. From all of the unique decorations that Cam spent weeks making to the mini pies from Veyo pies. We purchased custom made friendship bracelets to exchange along with the rings since we work outside and won’t always be wearing our rings.
What did you do to make the wedding “yours”?
Our ceremony and reception location made the wedding “ours”. We wanted a casual outdoor setting and we put a lot of time and effort into finding the right location. Having our wedding at Zion was the perfect choice for us. For years we had spent many days hiking in Zion and it was great to be able to spend a few days before the wedding with all of our family and friends exploring the area together. The natural surroundings are already so stunning we didn’t have to put a lot of effort into decorating.
What was a “must have” for your groom on the big day?
Cam was pretty laid back throughout the whole wedding process, but surprisingly he was very specific about what he would be wearing. He’s usually very casual and I rarely see him dressed up. He put a lot of time into picking out the right suit and in the end I’d say he did a pretty good job.
Share a wedding budget splurge that made a difference?
It didn’t feel like we splurged on anything. All of our vendors were great, from the food to the photography, they went above and beyond for us. I felt like we really got what we paid for and then some. One thing that I am so glad we decided to do was hire a videographer. We were on the fence about this and decided to hire one at the last minute. I am so thankful we did. I love my wedding video and I realized there was so much I missed and I am so glad I can relive our special day whenever I want.
What was a stand out moment of your day?
We had planned to read our own vows, but I was a little hesitant at first. In the end I am so glad we did. It seems to be the one moment that really stood out to me and to everyone who attended the wedding. Cam’s vows were amazing and honestly after hearing his vows nothing else mattered. We could have gotten rid of all the fancy decorations, food, etc and only had that moment and still have a memorable wedding.
Did you have any DIY elements?
Most of our decorations were DIY. Cam was amazing and he ended up making most of our decorations. My favorite was our wedding arch that he made from juniper trees, it was awesome! He also made some beautiful wedding signs from a very large juniper tree. In the end going the DIY route saved us some money and allowing us to really personalize our wedding, but… wow was it time consuming!
