Afton & Tanner
How did you meet?
We met August 2014 when we moved into the same apartment complex at BYU. However, I messed up my introduction and was off his radar for over 6 months until February 2015.
How did he/she propose?
I have a family cabin on Kolob mountain. It’s my favorite place on earth! I wanted to take him up there for our annual fencing weekend. I had no clue he even had the ring or a plan at the time. I proceeded to take him to my favorite spot on our property that overlooks the mountain and parts of Zion. He told me to find the perfect spot to take a picture, so I turned around and walked away from him. When I heard him say my name, he was on his knee. Completely shocked me! It was adorable though! My parents were there and got it on film.
The video is priceless!
How did you come up with the budget for your wedding, and did you stick to it?
My parents were in charge of the budget and the wedding was absolutely fantastic! There were certain things we splurged on like lighting from Forevermore Events and the cake from Sweet Cakes by Karen! The little things really add up and if we didn’t splurge on the little things, we would have stayed within the budget!
Were there any personal elements you incorporated into the wedding ceremony/reception?
I really liked lights and candles. There were candle decorations in the grass at the reception that I loved and there were a ton of lights lit and hung by Laura and her team at Forevermore Events. It brought a majestic feeling to the venue and I loved it!
How did you decide on your theme for the wedding?
I decided to stay traditional, but with little trend details. For example, I really wanted a set table, which is very traditional, yet I had lawn games and a s’more bar. The theme turned out to be a “rustic glam”!
What was a “must have” for your big day?
Have a good pair of shoes! I wore cowboy boots, which are my go-to shoe, and I never complained about my feet after all the greeting, walking, and dancing!
Share a wedding budget splurge that made a difference?
The cake! Sweet Cakes by Karen has amazing talent and I stare at pictures of my cake still! Also, the dress. If you don’t catch yourself smiling or don’t feel beautiful, it’s not the dress for you.
Besides tying the knot, what was your favorite wedding day moment?
I really loved how the atmosphere felt like a big celebration! Dancing was probably the most fun! My DJ Frank from Festival Sounds was great and started out the dancing with a Congo line. That got everybody really involved and I loved it!
If you could give any advice to future brides what would it be?
Take a moment on your big day and just soak in the feeling with your new husband. Sneak away or take a little longer to go out for your send off. You’ll never forget that feeling.
