Happy & Healthy

If it seems like your list of “to-do’s” before the “I-do’s” has been growing at an exponential rate, you are probably right! No matter the size of your list, you should never let it get in the way of your emotional and physical well-being.
Studies have shown that stress releases a hormone that can prevent the immune system from working properly, so do whatever it takes to make sure stress takes a backseat in all your wedding day planning. Instead, put you and your health in the driver’s seat.
Breathe in…Breathe out
Take time to take deep breaths as you embark on this journey toward wedded bliss. While stress may seem inevitable in wedding planning, there are ways to curtail the effects it has on you.
Give your body and mind a chance to rest and rejuvenate. Consider taking a yoga class, treating yourself to a massage, or simply going for a brisk 10-minute walk. Believe me, your wedding planning will still be there when you get back!
Get your Beauty Rest
In the weeks leading up to your wedding, you may be tempted to pull an all-nighter creating custom favors or working on the perfect seating arrangement. Don’t! Aunt Doris will survive if Cousin Ron is seated in her line of vision despite the dirty look he allegedly gave her in 1992. You, on the other hand, might not survive, if you skimp on sleep.
During sleep, your body is working to support healthy brain function and maintain your physical health. Besides feeling better, the recommended eight hours of shut-eye also helps you look better. What bride doesn’t want to look and feel their best on their wedding day?!
Sweating for the Wedding
After you’ve rested, it’s time to get that heart rate up! Yoga, Zumba, Pilates, weight-lifting, running, and cycling–pick your preference or a combination of exercises. If you enjoy what you are doing, you’re more likely to keep it up–that is key, because a regular exercise regimen is crucial leading up to your big day.
Exercise is your body’s opportunity to let out the stress. It also will keep you shapely, fit, and mentally alert. When it’s time to slip into your wedding gown, you will be giving yourself an extra big pat on the back for all your hard work.
If you’re not sure where to start with your workouts, there are a variety of workout plans for the bride-to-be on different websites; such as the “6-Month Wedding Workout Makeover” or “DietBet.com.” On this site you put in some money and if you lose a certain percent of your body weight over a set time, you get rewarded financially. If money is your motivation, that might be your golden ticket. You could also consider a personal trainer or a gym membership.
Many brides-to-be gravitate toward yoga because it is a workout for mind, body and soul. Yogi brides claim to reap the benefits of clear skin, a clear mind, weight-loss, increased muscle tone and flexibility, and even increased libido for that wedding night. Let’s be honest, it’s not just during your wedding day that you want to feel beautiful, fit, fresh and fabulous!
Take Your Vitamins and Supplements
Though you might not divulge the reasons behind your sudden interest in yoga to your mother–you know, the wedding night benefits?! She will be impressed when she sees you following her years of motherly advice by taking your vitamins like a good little girl.
You can give your immune system a boost by adding vitamins to your arsenal of health-boosting help. Vitamins A and C have been proven to prevent the flu and cold, while research shows that people who took one garlic supplement per day were less likely to get a cold. Even though you and your groom will be vowing to love each other “in sickness and in health,” nobody wants a horrible cold or flu on their wedding day.
Finally, nourish your body with lean protein, whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Skipping meals might seem like a good idea for the bride who wants to shed a few pounds, but the simple truth is that your body needs the proper nourishment. Good nutritious foods will help you maintain your energy and allow you to keep up with all of the wedding craziness.
Just picture it: you, on your wedding day, slim, trim and glowing from head to toe as you make your way down the aisle–the picture of perfect health. By getting proper nutrition, exercise, and rest, you are well on your way to a happily and healthily ever after.
