Ann & Mikey
How did he propose to you?
Mikey is a pretty simple guy. We went out for a nice dinner at a small tapas restaurant. Mikey had the ring in his raincoat pocket, but the restaurant was small and the tables were really close together. He couldn’t get the ring out of his pocket at the restaurant and so he actually proposed when we got home in our doorway (with our two dogs and cat looking on).
Were there any personal elements that you incorporated into the wedding ceremony/reception?
My brother had ties and scarves custom made to include our initials and the date of our wedding in roman numerals in a small stripe within the pattern. These were given to all of the wedding party and family members at the wedding. Mikey’s ring was handmade using gold from his grandfather’s wedding ring and my ring was re-designed from my grandmother’s ring.
What was one idea that made the wedding yours?
The location. We were married at a campsite that we had stayed at many many times with family and friends over the years and this made it very special.
What was the one idea that the groom just had to have?
Mikey brewed his own special beer (a belgium wit) for the reception.
What was one “must have” that made your wedding unforgettable?
We had “a person.” She is a close friend and she helped us write our vows, organize the ceremony and usher everyone down the aisle at the correct times. We couldn’t have done it without her.
Share a wedding budget splurge that made all the difference.
We splurged for a good, well respected photographer. Your photographer is the person documenting your memories so that you can always remember those special moments, because they fly by on the big day!
Did you have DIY elements and how did you incorporate them?
Most of the elements of our wedding and reception were handmade. We created an aisle out of burlap and my sister played the guitar for us as we walked down it. I made the necklace that I wore during the ceremony. We did all of the table flower arrangements ourselves, and made the reception decorations. Me, my mom, aunt and Mikey’s mom and grandma made all of the cupcakes for the guests from scratch.
