Ashley and Dj
DJ wanted to surprise me so he got my parents and my grandma in on the plan. I was with my family in Las Vegas and we were about to head home when we got a call from grandma. She said her car had broke down at the temple and we had to go pick her up and take her home. At the time, this didn’t seem out of the ordinary to me so I didn’t think twice about it. When we arrived at the temple my mom said my grandma was getting her things together and would be out in a few minutes. She suggested we take a walk around the temple while we wait. Once we were almost all the way around the temple I could see DJ waiting on a bench with a rose in his hand. I should have seen this coming but I was completely surprised. He got down on one knee and the rest is history!
How did you come up with the budget for your wedding, and did you stick to it?
DJ and I sat down with my parents and decided on a budget for the wedding. When we sat down with Laura, our wedding planner, she helped us break down our budget into specific categories from what was most important to what was least important to us on our big day. This was very helpful in order to stay on track and stay within our budget.
Was there any personal element you incorporated into the wedding ceremony/reception?
Our wedding reception had a vintage feel to it so we added some old family heirlooms. We had an area that had a few old wedding pictures of our parents and other grandparents that I loved. I also used my great grandmothers suitcase as our card holder
Did you have any “DIY” elements at your reception?
We had a kids table that was set up to keep the little ones occupied. Our wedding planner made wands for the kids to play with. She also helped us put together a “candy bar” for our guests to fill their own bags and take home.
How did you decide on your color scheme and theme for the wedding?
I looked online and through magazines for inspirations. I brought my ideas to Laura and she was able to help me pull it all together. We didn’t have specific colors in our wedding, overall we chose soft, muted colors.
What was a “must have” for your big day?
Good food was our must have. Both of our families appreciate good food so we wanted the food to be delicious. Marvellous Catering did an amazing job making sure everything was perfect.
Share a wedding budget splurge that made a difference?
Photography was a top priority to us. We were willing to spend more money to get amazing pictures. Jimmy from Gideon Photography was able to capture moments of our wedding that were very special to us. We knew the day would fly by and all we would have left would be our pictures and memories.
Besides tying the knot, what was your favorite part of the day?
We loved everything about our day and wish we could do it again! One of my favorite memories will always be the family dance we had with everyone getting down to a mix of cheesy songs.
Any advice you could pass on to future brides?
I would tell future brides not to worry about everything being perfect. When it comes time for your big day you won’t care about the little things, you’ll just want the people you love most around you.
Where did you go for your honeymoon?
We spent a fabulous 8 days on Grand Cayman Island. It was very relaxing after a stressful few months of wedding planning!
