Stephanie & Weston
How did you meet?
Weston and I met in high school in Georgia. We were best friends for 8 years before we started dating.
How did he/she propose?
We had never discussed a ring or a timeline for getting married. We were with his family playing games in his backyard when he turned on a song, and read a story he wrote about us. It was 8 paragraphs long, one paragraph for each year that we’ve known each other. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him and I said yes. Of course it was a total surprise!
How did you come up with the budget for your wedding and did you stick to it?
My parents knew the budget, but never let me worry about it. My mother would advise me for or against certain things to help us stay within my parents’ budget.
Were there any personal elements you incorporated into the wedding ceremony/reception?
Weston and I love games of all kinds so we incorporated lawn games and board games for people to play during the reception.
How did you decide on your theme for the wedding?
We were lucky enough to have a beautiful venue with a beautiful pavilion overlooking a lake, which made it easy for us to decide on a rustic elegant wedding theme with natural elements of greenery garlands mixed with chandeliers and a beautifully set table!
What was a “must have” for your big day?
We knew we had to be married at my family ranch, Holmstead Ranch, which has a lot of wonderful memories for me and my family and I wanted everyone to share in making another memory by having our wedding at our ranch! We also wanted the people who came to our reception to celebrate with us to know our courtship story. We had a large poster designed to match our wedding invitation with our story year by year that people read after they signed in at our guest book and before they greeted us.
Share a wedding budget splurge that made a difference?
My dress was definitely a splurge, and Alta Moda Bridal along with my mom, helped me decide that it was worth it. My dress was so special to me and I loved how I felt as a bride in it. This is a splurge that I absolutely recommend, so that you feel beautiful on your wedding day.
Besides tying the knot, what was your favorite wedding day moment?
After our receiving line ended, Weston and I had a moment to sneak away by ourselves to eat and take it all in. It was magical to look out over our reception and see the lights twinkling, our guests eating yummy food while laughing and dancing the night away to the Mimi Knowles Band. We loved that so many of our friends came to celebrate with us!
If you could give any advice to future brides what would it be?
I look back on my wedding day and remember those tiny moments where I stopped and took in the day. I looked at the lace on my dress, I looked at my husband smile with his friends, I danced with my friends and hugged my parents before we were whisked away in a horse drawn carriage. Take time for the little moments to take it in and appreciate what is happening around you and to all of the people that made it happen!
